Russell Street Utility Relocation to Result in Lane Closures and Traffic Pattern Shifts

Posted: October 10, 2013

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that lane closures and traffic pattern shifts will be implemented along a portion of Russell Street for utility relocation work.

Starting on morning of Tuesday, October 15, 2013 (prior to the morning peak hour travel time), the left lane of both northbound and southbound Russell Street will be closed to through traffic between M&T Bank Stadium and Bush Street. Commuters may also experience traffic pattern shifts once the lane closures are placed along this stretch of Russell Street.

In addition, utility work will affect motorists trying to access Russell Street from northbound I-95, as a new traffic pattern will be implemented. During construction, the merge lane from the northbound I-95 ramp onto Russell Street will be modified and motorists using this ramp will be required to come to a complete stop and then turn onto Russell Street. This change will significantly impact traffic trying to access Russell Street from northbound I-95, especially during peak hour travel times. Commuters using this ramp are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.

Construction work is expected to continue through July, 2014. Motorists traveling in this vicinity may experience delays and should consider alternate routes. Suggested alternates include I-395, Washington Boulevard and Key Highway.
